Commanders' Eric Bieniemy Bringing 'Exciting But Different' Way to Coaching, Says Ron Rivera
Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy hasn't wasted any time getting things done his way. Taking over from Scott Turner's up-and-down offense, Bieniemy knew changes needed to be made. And he's made them alright.
Washington head coach Ron Rivera gave an insight into the workings of his new offensive coordinator and stated that Bieniemy is a hands-on type of person and always brings the energy.
"Well, its been exciting," Rivera said. "You know, EB is a high energy, high- impact guy. He doesn't hold in. He doesn't pull any punches. He's very direct with the players, which has been good. One of the things that we talked about was just changing the way we do things. As I told you guys, I gave him the opportunity to script a lot of things that we're doing. He is handling all the scheduling. I basically just laid the format out, given it to him and, and he's put it all together, so that's why things are different."
Taking over an offense that was ranked 24th for points per game (18.9), things needed to change, especially when weapons like Terry McLaurin, Brian Robinson Jr., Jahan Dotson, Curtis Samuel are available.
With Sam Howell beginning his journey as Washington's starter, there will be ups and downs, but it is clear that Bieniemy knows how he wants his offense to run and knows how to make it so.
Even if that means making subtle changes to anything he sees fit, and ultimately, it will be those types of changes that could hold the Commanders in good stead next season... despite being rather uncomfortable right now.
