Could Commanders Take RB Bijan Robinson with No. 16 Pick? 'Options Are Open,' Says GM Martin Mayhew
The Washington Commanders are in a good position heading into the NFL Draft. With no position seen as a specific need, the franchise can take the best player available when it comes to pick.
Currently holding the No.16 pick, the Commanders will have many options when their name is called, so which way will they go?
Could Washington pair Brian Robinson Jr. with another Robinson in Bijan from the Texas Longhorns if he is available? Commanders general manager Martin Mayhew didn't rule it out.
"I think you wanna keep your options open," Mayhew said. "We evaluate everybody. Every position is important and you get a quality player who can help you win football games. I wouldn't put too much weight into what people think about valuing that spot. What is his value to you? What's his value to our organization, to our football team? That's where that comes into play.”
Adding Bijan Robinson, who for some, is a top-five talent in the draft to make a tandem with Brian, and suddenly soon-to-be second-year quarterback Sam Howell has a backfield that could be the envy of the NFL.
Not to mention what having the pair of running backs could do for the receivers in Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Curtis Samuel. New offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy could have everything at his disposal in his first season in the nation's capital.
Whether Bijan is available when Washington is slated to pick is not known, but the Commanders haven't ruled out taking a running back, which is cause for some excitement.
An offense with Bijan and Brian Robinson Jr., McLaurin, Dotson, Samuel, and a rising quarterback in Howell could have Washington in a good place for the foreseeable future.
With the impending sale of the franchise and a clean slate coming, the Commanders could be about to usher in a new era of football...potentially with Bijan Robinson at the center of it.
