Commanders Brian Robinson Jr.: 'Feel More Like Myself' After Shooting

Washington Commanders second-year running back Brian Robinson Jr. says that a year removed from his shooting incident, he finally feels like himself.
In this story:

Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. is feeling the best physically he has in a long time. After missing the first four games of his rookie season due to a carjacking incident that left him with gunshot wounds, the running back is now back to full health.

A rookie season that yielded 797 rushing yards and two touchdowns from 12 games, Robinson showed flashes of his talent despite missing a month of football. But was he ever "fully" fit last season?

“Never," Robinson Jr. said. "From the time I stepped back on the field, I was dealing with all kinds of things going on in my body ... All type of things going on in my knee, everything going on in my hip. There wasn’t one time I felt like Brian Robinson. So no, that's night and day from then to now. So, people should expect a lot great things to come when you compare all the things I did while I was limping around all year last year.”

Now over a year removed from the incident, Robinson Jr. is looking at being a focal point of Eric Bieniemy's new offense.

With QB Sam Howell looming as the starter, despite having just one regular season game to his name, the Commanders are putting all their eggs in Howell's basket. But as far as Robinson's job in the offense, will we see any noticeable changes in how he is used this season?

“I feel like I played in a strong role last year and I don't see much adjustment going on. And as far as my role, whatever I'm called on to do," he said. "No limits on what I can do."

With a host of changes going on this offseason, many are bullish on what Washington under Bieniemy can be, and with a fully fit Robinson Jr. in the backfield, maybe the Commanders shouldn't be slept on in the NFC East race.
