Commanders Have to Bring Physicality vs. 49ers, Says Brian Robinson Jr.
Washington Commanders rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr. knows what his team has to bring to the table on Saturday against the 10-4 San Francisco 49ers - physicality.
After a crushing 20-12 loss at home to the New York Giants that dropped Washington to 7-6-1, Ron Rivera's team no longer controls its playoff destiny. But if the team is to steady the ship and force its way in on Saturday, the Commanders better bring everything.
"First, I think we gotta come out and be physical," Robinson Jr. said. " We got to be locked in. We got to be focused just on the game plan in general. Really, just to put together our best gameplan, try to put together our best game against the 49ers."
Robinson Jr. is the catalyst for the Commanders' physical style on offense. The rookie has made a name for himself by running through defensive backs and carrying them forward for extra yards.
Being just 10 games into his NFL career after a shooting incident in the offseason caused him to miss the opening four games, the rookie is slowly returning to his usual self.
"The more snaps I get, the more carries I get, the more comfortable I get," Robinson said. "I grow with every play I'm in, so I expect to continue to make those strides, and hopefully we see some bigger games coming soon."
Coming up against one of the best rushing teams in the NFL, not to mention the most physical, as Kyle Shanahan's team are the best-ranked defense in terms of points allowed per game (15.0), Robinson isn't shying away from that.
He wants to be the best on the field every play.
"I want to be one of the most physical guys on the field," Robinson said. " I want to show that every time I'm on the field. It's just part of it, guys think I'm just going to quit on a play. I'm never going to quit. They're just going to have to see the back end of me."
The Commanders face the 49ers on Christmas Eve at 4:05 p.m. at Levi's Stadium.
