Commanders Ex Carson Wentz to Start for Rams vs. 49ers
A former Washington Commanders quarterback is getting a start in Week 18.
The Los Angeles Rams announced that quarterback Carson Wentz will start for the team on Sunday in Week 18 against the San Francisco 49ers. Wentz started seven games for the Commanders in 2022, going 2-5 and throwing for 1,755 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
It will be the second consecutive week that the Niners will play a member of the 2022 Commanders squad after Sam Howell started last Sunday. Earlier in the year, Howell spoke on his relationship with Wentz.
"Carson’s a good friend of mine," Howell said. "I have a good relationship with him, and he's someone that helped me out so much last year and he was always so good to me. So yeah, I definitely want to chop it up with him."
Wentz spent much of this season as a free agent before signing with the Rams on Nov. 7.
Despite being on opposite sides of the country, Howell and Wentz have kept contact. The opportunity to see Wentz before the game is one that Howell said he looks forward to.
“I haven't talked to him in a few weeks," Howell said. "He texted me a few weeks ago. He was watching our Seattle game because they were about to play the Seahawks, but I'll probably talk to him if not today, probably tomorrow or something. We're going out there a day early, so maybe I'll try to see him. Excited to see him."

Perhaps the former teammates can trade tips on what the Niners defense lines up like.
The Rams and 49ers are set to kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.
