Bears vs. Commanders Thursday Night Football: 'No Shortage of Storylines,' Says Al Michaels

The Washington Commanders eye redemption in their Thursday Night Football game this season against the Chicago Bears.
In this story:

The Washington Commanders will appear in two primetime games in 2023, including hosting the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football in Week 5 that hopes to be improved from last season.

In what could have been the ugliest game of last year, these teams played a 12-7 slugfest of a football game on Prime Video's Thursday Night Football.

TNF will feature matchups between all 14 playoff teams from last season. This comes after a lackluster 2022 season slate of rough matchups.

The 2023 Amazon Prime matchups look much better. Sports Illustrated reached out to TNF's lead voice, Al Michaels, for his take on the schedule.

“Love the way we come out of the gate," Michaels said. "Three ‘A’ grade games. Two Aaron Rodgers games. Baltimore-Cincinnati, another good one. League did us a solid.

“I was raring to go the minute I saw the whole slate. Already thinking of story lines for each game, of which there is no shortage.”

Washington hopes to get after Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields in what is largely considered a make-or-break season for Commanders coach Ron Rivera. Washington has the lowest win projection in the NFC East and a redemption win in primetime could go a long way in setting the tone for this team early.
