Commanders RB Chris Rodriguez: Ideal Partner For Brian Robinson Jr.?

Washington Commanders rookie running back Chris Rodriguez showcased his ability against the Cincinnati Bengals as he pushed his case for a roster spot with another quality showing.

The Washington Commanders' final preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals was the last chance for players to push their case for a roster spot, with the big cut coming in a few days.

Rookie running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. he gave coach Ron Rivera some food for thought as he totaled 52 rushing yards on just seven carries as the Commanders snuck past the Bengals 21-19.

While Brian Robinson Jr. is the lead back for Eric Bieniemy's offense, the backup role is up for grabs. Antonio Gibson was thought to be the guy, but now, with Rodriguez Jr. getting his chances against the Bengals and making the most of them, maybe, just maybe, Rivera and Bieniemy have a decision to make on the depth chart.

Rodriguez has now had back-to-back good games as the Commanders went undefeated (3-0) during preseason. His five carries for 31 yards vs. the Baltimore Ravens and five carries for 39 yards vs. the Cleveland Browns, Rodriguez has done everything asked of him by the Commanders' coaching staff.

The rookie running back has led Washington in rushing yards in each of the three preseason games, and his stat line looks rather impressive.

Rodriguez totaled 122 rushing yards on 19 carries and averaged a cool 6.4 yards per run, which will no doubt make Bieniemy think about using him in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Preseason is all about players making a name for themselves in the hopes of making the final roster, and for Rodriguez, he has made his case and then some.

Will it be enough? Time will tell.
