Commanders WR Curtis Samuel 'Definitely Excited' With Eric Bieniemy's Offense
The Washington Commanders are undergoing an offensive change under the guidance of Eric Bieniemy...and everyone is loving it.
Taking over from Scott Turner, the hype around Bieniemy and what he could bring to this Washington offense that has its fair share of weapons was intriguing.
Now, with training camp in full swing, receiver Curtis Samuel is loving everything about "EB's" new scheme.
"I'm definitely excited,' Samuel said. "It is everything I expected it to be. Coach has high expectations for us, but we definitely have high expectations for ourselves."
Samuel is coming off one of his better NFL seasons since entering the league, as he caught 64 passes for 656 yards and four touchdowns. With Bieniemy's offense thought to be more creative than Turner's, many more chances are expected to come his way.
But with more wrinkles in the offense comes more learning, and that's exactly what the offense is doing at training camp.
"We just got to come out here and work every day," Samuel said. "Work to understand the playbook so we can go out there and play fast. We love the game, so this is what we here for, we got to enjoy it.”
Camp has gotten off to a good start for a host of players as they adjust to Bieniemy's new scheme, but while it is only practice, head coach Ron Rivera knows what the receivers could be in store for under the new offense...and we only have to look back to what Bieniemy did in Kansas City.
"I think it fits in very well," Rivera said. "Go back and get an opportunity to look at the stuff that they did in Kansas City and look at how creative and inventive they have been over the years with the receivers that they've had."
So everything has been largely positive coming out of Commanders camp, and with things looking up, it is easy to see why Samuel is bullish on what's being built.
For the first time in forever, football is fun again in Washington.
