Commanders' Dan Quinn Has 'Tricks Up Sleeve'

What will Dan Quinn's coaching staff look like for the Commanders next season?
In this story:

The Washington Commanders made a big move by signing former Super Bowl head coach Dan Quinn and taking him from the Dallas Cowboys in the process, but the organization isn’t done with the changes it has made to the staff this off-season.

"Dan (Quinn) really had all that in his head, he had a plan," owner Josh Harris said. "You saw this weekend, but he's got a few more tricks up his sleeve, so it was really impressive.”

So far, Washington has signed a new offensive coordinator in Kliff Kingsbury. The former Arizona Cardinals head coach was the offensive mind who helped orchestrate the success of Kyler Murray earlier in his career and helped develop Patrick Mahomes during his time at Texas Tech.

If Kingsbury can help elevate Sam Howell or whoever the Commanders may select in this year's draft, then the offense should be formidable next season while performing under the defensive mind of Quinn as a head coach.

In addition to hiring Kingsbury as the team's offensive coordinator, Quinn has brought on Joe Whitt Jr. to be the team's defensive coordinator and help fix a defense that was among the worst in the NFL, especially against the pass. Whitt Jr. will be in charge of defensive play-calling duties.

Washington's defense surrendered the most passing touchdowns passing yards, in addition to overall yards and touchdowns, in 2023, so the hope is that by adding Whitt Jr., who was the Green Bay Packers' longtime cornerback coach (17 seasons as an assistant), so the hope is that he'll be able to improve the secondary drastically next season.

As for the remaining position-specific staff positions, time will only tell what "tricks" are up Quinn's sleeves, but so far, it would appear his staff hires have a high likelihood of changing the Commanders' future for the better.
