Just over a day after the Washington Commanders were sold to Josh Harris on Thursday, former owners Dan and Tanya Snyder have finally broken their silence.

The couple released a statement on Friday thanking fans for their support and they thanked current and former players for the sacrifices they made for the organization.

"We are immensely grateful to the best fans in football, the Commanders' faithful, for the passion and unwavering support they have shown for this team and those who represented it on and off the field," Dan and Tanya Snyder said in a statement. "From the players who battled every week for that extra inch, to those who worked behind the scenes to enhance every facet of the organization, we thank you for your hard work, dedication and commitment to our team, fans, pursuit of excellence and most importantly, to each other.

The Snyder's first bought the franchise in May 1999. Dan and Tanya Snyder described owning the Commanders as a "privilege of a lifetime." Dan also said he was a fan of the franchise before owning the team.

"Being stewards of this historic organization for the last quarter century has been the privilege of a lifetime. When we purchased the team nearly 25 years ago, Dan was quoted as saying "I'm a fan. A huge fan. It's that simple." That is as true today as it was then."

Now, after the Snyders' tenure was marred with controversy on and off the field, fans will set their sights on the future with Josh Harris as the owner of the franchise.
