Commanders DB Kam Curl 'Stepped Up' as Leader

Kam Curl is set to play a big role for the Washington Commanders this season.

The Washington Commanders are rolling out a new-look secondary in 2023.

The team used its first two draft picks on cornerbacks, selecting Emmanuel Forbes in the first round and Quan Martin in the second. The team may look to move on from veteran Kendall Fuller, but one of the mainstays in that secondary is Kam Curl, who is set to take on a big role in the final year of his rookie contract.

“Well, I think his role is gonna continue to be pretty much what it is," Rivera said. "You know, he's one of those guys that have stepped up in terms of leadership. He's a young man that does fit what we do, obviously and he has played a big role for us and he'll continue.”

In 2022, Curl played in 12 games and had 83 tackles, including a career-high six for a loss. This year, more expectations will be placed on Curl as he plays for a second contract.

Considering the fact that Curl, Montez Sweat and Chase Young are all due for a new contract in 2024, there should be some friendly and healthy competition. If Curl can stay healthy and anchor a Washington secondary that added pieces through the draft, he could be in line for a big pay day.
