Commanders vs. Broncos Live Updates: Washington Completes 18-Point Comeback to Start 2-0

Can the Washington Commanders start 2-0 for the first time since 2011 with a win over the Denver Broncos?
In this story:

It's been 12 years since the Washington Commanders opened their season with two straight wins.

Will this be the year they snap that streak? The Commanders face a tall task on Sunday when they head on the road to face the Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High at 4:25 p.m. ET.

Washington opened its season on Sept. 10 with a 20-16 win over the Arizona Cardinals at FedEx Field. The Broncos opened the Sean Payton era with a narrow 17-16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera and Payton have a history of coaching against each other from their time in the NFC South. Rivera was the Carolina Panthers' head coach from 2011 to 2019, while Payton was at the helm for the New Orleans Saints from 2006 to 2021.

Rivera is 6-11 all-time against Payton.

If Washington is going to find more success on offense, it'll have to do a better job of keeping Sam Howell upright. The second-year quarterback was sacked six times, one of which led to a fumble and touchdown for the Cardinals.

Denver's defense didn't have a single sack against Jimmy Garoppolo.

Both teams will get a boost with key players returning from injuries. Chase Young will make his 2023 debut for the Commanders after missing last week with a stinger. Broncos receiver Jerry Jeudy will also play for the first time after missing Week 1 with a hamstring injury.
