Commanders 'Destined' to Have New QB in 2024?

The Washington Commanders have the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, but are they destined to take a quarterback?
In this story:

Ever since the Washington Commanders were locked into the No. 2 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, tongues have been wagging thinking about who the organization will select.

Owner Josh Harris and new general manager Adam Peters' first order of business is to hire a new head coach, and then figure out what to do with such a coveted pick.

NFL.com thinks that Washington will do what most on the planet think they will do when it comes to the No. 2 pick - draft a quarterback.

"A new regime might not see the same potential in Howell as Rivera did, and with the second overall pick in their possession, Washington is in a prime position to select a new savior under center from what has the makings of an enticing QB class, with USC's Caleb Williams and North Carolina's Drake Maye having declared their intentions to enter the draft," NFL.com writes. "To some, it'd be awkward seeing Washington replace one UNC quarterback (Howell) with another, but that's just the way things go sometimes. It's a cold, results-driven world, and it sure feels like a new signal-caller is destined for Washington."

With Caleb Williams and Drake Maye the likely first two to be taken off the board, the consensus is that Washington, as NFL.com writes, will select one of those two.

The collective NFL world is keeping a watchful eye on what the Chicago Bears do with the No. 1 overall pick, as the future of Justin Fields is as clear as mud right now.

That is less so for the Commanders and Sam Howell.

After a season that had as many ups as downs, Howell did show promise, but with Washington having a chance at potentially drafting its quarterback for the next decade, it might prove too enticing.

Whether that be USC's Williams or North Carolina's Drake Maye, the quarterback position feels like that is where the biggest change is going to happen for Washington on the field.

Could Commanders Pull Off 2 NFL Draft Trades in Round 1?

Of course, we could be wrong and the new regime could go in a different direction, but is the chance to potentially draft Williams or Maye too good to pass up?

It might be, but that's what Harris and Peters, along with the new head coach have to figure out.
