Commanders Way-Too-Early Prediction: Finally Quarterback Stability?

The offseason for the Washington Commanders has barely started, but yet here we are with a very early prediction of what is to come next season,
In this story:

The Washington Commanders enter the offseason knowing where the roster must improve. The quarterback position.

With Carson Wentz thought to be released after just one season and Taylor Heinicke set to be a free agent, which only leaves young Sam Howell, who head coach Ron Rivera labeled the "likely" starter.

So, when it comes to predicting precisely what we can expect from Washington next season, it all centers around the quarterback position.

Sports Illustrated writes that the Commanders could look to draft and develop a quarterback rather than break the bank to sign a veteran.

"While their draft position (16th) makes them look like a team out of striking distance, and Washington may certainly be gun shy after trading so much capital for Robert Griffin III a decade back, this is a year where four or possibly five first-round quarterbacks are in the pool," SI writes. "Washington realizes what its counterpart in Philadelphia has with Hurts: draft, develop and spend big on the rookie deal. Otherwise, the Commanders are not luring anyone of stature to D.C."

That certainly looks good on paper. Sign a quarterback to a rookie deal and spend the salary cap putting pieces around him.

Will that be enough to satisfy Washington fans? That part is unknown, but it certainly feels like a smart move for an organization that generally swings and misses when trying to acquire top quarterback talent in free agency.

With Howell showing good signs in his first regular season start and with the draft rather deep at the quarterback position when Washington has its first pick (16th), the chance to draft and develop, much like the Philadelphia Eagles, feels like the right way to go.
