Cowboys Week 'Means Something Around Here!' Says Commanders' Eric Bieniemy
The storied rivalry between the Washington Commanders and the Dallas Cowboys will add another chapter in Week 18 at FedEx Field. With both teams having opposite goals, one thing is for certain - Washington wants to beat Dallas.
While their season hasn't gone how many had hoped, the Commanders get a chance to play spoiler as the Cowboys chase the No. 2 seed and the NFC East title.
For offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, the players have been putting their best foot forward this week and he is under no illusions about what "Dallas Week" means in the nation's capital.
"This week, obviously, the guys have been doing a heck of a job," Bieniemy said. "I mean, they're into it. We just finished practice. They're working their tails off. They're excited about this opportunity that's coming up. Obviously, it's the Dallas Cowboys. It means something around here and to these guys. So, I think there's still a lot to improve upon and continue to work on.”
While there is some focus on the Cowboys to close out the season, some also have an eye to the offseason as there are expected to be sweeping changes in both the player department, but also the coaching one as well.
Bieniemy himself has seen his name being thrown up for potential head coaching positions with the Atlanta Falcons and the Los Angeles Chargers being possible landing spots.
But how does Bieniemy handle all that speculation when there's still one more game of football to be played this season?
“You know what you live in the moment," Bieniemy said. "The only thing I can worry about and control is today. You can only live in this particular moment. You can't worry about tomorrow. You can take care of tomorrow when tomorrow gets here.”
Rivera’s Week 18 Goals May Not Be Aligned With Commanders
With the Commanders looking to finish their poor season on a high by ruining their rivals' chance at a better playoff seeding, everyone is pulling in the same direction.
It hasn't been the season many envisioned, but Washington has a big carrot dangling in front of it ahead of Sunday - ruin the Cowboys playoff position.
