What Eric Bieniemy 'Loves' About Commanders QB Sam Howell

Washington Commanders coordinator Eric Bieniemy was again full of praise for second-year quarterback Sam Howell as he gears up for the season opener vs. the Arizona Cardinals.

Washington Commanders starting quarterback Sam Howell has taken everything in his stride this offseason.

After being in a battle for the starting position, Howell beat out Jacoby Brissett and hasn't looked back. But for all the good things that Howell does on the field, coordinator Eric Bieniemy likes his quarterback's intangibles.

“You know what, Sam is just, and I've heard some of the players say this over and over again, that he's just calm, he's cool, he's very collective," Bieniemy said. He doesn't get too high. Obviously, he doesn't get too down with anything. I love his demeanor."

It has been an offseason of optimism for the Commanders' offense, as many are bullish on what Washington could do this season. After being close to a playoff berth last year before an unfortunate collapse, Bieniemy's offense could surprise some.

But for that to happen, Howell has to be at the top of his game. A tough ask for a quarterback who has just one regular season start to his name.

But Bieniemy has full confidence in what his quarterback has done throughout the offseason.

"I think he does an outstanding job of just handling all the information that's being provided," Bieniemy said. "He knows how to channel all the noise and put it in perspective. If there's something out of place, he knows how to auto-correct and make it right the next time. I enjoy working with him."

There has been nothing but positivity coming out of Commanders' camp this offseason, but the proof will be in the pudding come Sunday.

Bieniemy is calling the shots; he has full confidence in his quarterback and the offense, and now the time has come to put it all together.

The Cardinals await.
