Washington Commanders Had 'Couple of Rough Weeks' Says Coach Eric Bieniemy

The Washington Commanders are still reeling from their 45-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy says it has been a rough few weeks.
In this story:

The Washington Commanders are doing their best to move past the 45-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day as attention now turns to the Miami Dolphins in Week 13.

In the aftermath, two coaches, Jack Del Rio and Brent Vieselmeyer, were told their services were no longer required, so it has been a somber week for the Commanders.

Even offensive coordinator Eri Bieniemy acknowledges that things have been tough for the franchise of late.

"Obviously, we've had a couple of rough weeks here, but the thing I like about our guys, our guys are working," Bieniemy said. "They're getting back into it. Hell, today's a situational day, and we're working on our third down as we prepare for these [Miami] Dolphins. Got another challenge ahead of us, fired up and looking forward to the opportunity that's going to be presented this week.”

For Washington, the loss to the Cowboys was odd, and the final scoreline doesn't reflect the nature of the game; it was only a 10-point lead for Dallas entering the fourth quarter, so the Commanders were still within striking distance.

But, a 25-point quarter from the Cowboys that seemed to happen in a flash blew the game apart before Washington knew what hit them. Washington had more first downs, 25 more plays, and fewer penalties. It won the time of possession stat by over 13 minutes but still lost.

“Anytime you're not winning, they're all frustrating because there's always the, ‘If I would've, should've, could've,'" Bieniemy said. "So, like I said, I'll continue saying this, I got to do a better job. If I'm doing a better job, our guys will do a better job, and that falls right on my plate. So, I'm never going to run away from anything, I'm always going to stand tall and look myself in the mirror first and foremost. But then, making sure that I'm clearing it up and making sure I'm doing everything under the sun to prevent this from happening again.”

So, while the Commanders won many of the key stats, they didn't win the most important one - the score.

Now, facing a Dolphins team that is just as potent on offense as the Cowboys, Washington will have its work cut out to keep up.

Sitting at 4-8 on the season and their year in freefall, Washington needs to steady the ship, and if it can somehow figure out a way to slow down Miami and cause an upset, then the entire feeling around the organization could change and put the couple of "tough" weeks behind them.
