Why Washington Commanders Signed Michael Deiter in Free Agency
The Washington Commanders are hoping for a renaissance with their offensive line. Part of the makeover the team must undergo will be helped with the signing of Michael Deiter from the Houston Texans.
While he's projected to be a backup this season Deiter's film still warrants watching, and when you do you'll once again see a guy who simply has the motor to play every snap from start to finish.
He's a contact-seeker who doesn't wait for opponents to bring the action to him and really shines when playing ahead of the hole or being able to get to the second level quickly after helping secure his lane.
Deiter looks physical enough to hold up in the trenches and not allow the defense to reset the line of scrimmage, but he's at his best when on the move and helping spring backs for big gains on the ground.
While the three new additions follow a common thread they all bring different features that help paint the picture of a Commanders offensive line that is going to be much more intentional in how it attacks opposing defenses and has the ability to move side to side and up the field as needed.
If you ask us a young quarterback who possesses the same traits would fit really well with the direction his protection detail is heading.
