Should Commanders Sign Broncos Ex Dalton Risner?

Former Denver Broncos guard Dalton Risner remains a free agent. Could the Washington Commanders sign him?
In this story:

The Washington Commanders' most glaring weakness is on the offensive line.

With up to three new starters on the interior, the Commanders' season could very well come down to how well the offensive line protects new quarterback Sam Howell.

So why not give Howell some much-needed protection in the form of the NFL's best free agent lineman Dalton Risner?

Risner, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Denver Broncos, starting 62 games in his four-year career. However, the free agent has turned down each offer and opportunity presented to him so far this offseason. Perhaps the Commanders should swoop in.

Washington is working out centers Tyler Larsen and Ricky Stromberg at the guard position, a sign that the team may not currently have its answer at that position. Risner could come in and immediately give the team an answer.

Granted, there are risks towards adding a sure-fire starter like Risner this late into training camp. With less than a month until the team's season opener against the Arizona Cardinals, Risner may not be in the same game-ready shape as other players currently on the roster.

On top of that, the offensive line's chemistry has been a point of emphasis in camp. Adding Risner would essentially bring the unit back to square one.

However, Risner's talent may be more than enough to quell those issues for Washington.
