Commanders WR Jahan Dotson 'Super Thankful' for New Coach Eric Bieniemy

With yet another outburst setting social media ablaze on Wednesday, Washington Commanders receiver Jahan Dotson says he appreciates coach Eric Bieniemy's methods.
In this story:

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Commanders have a new energy on their team, and he's been making social media waves on a nearly daily basis during practices.

Assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy came in with a reputation for being about as direct as a person can be, and the Commanders have learned quickly the rumors are true.

Quarterback Sam Howell has already stated on the record that he likes Bieniemy's methods and in fact, asked to be coached hard.

And on Wednesday, second-year receiver Jahan Dotson reiterated that mentality during his post-practice press conference.

"It's awesome just to have someone that holds you to such a high standard," Dotson told us.

Earlier in the OTA period Bieniemy shouted at his quarterback to chase down the defender who had just intercepted one of his passes, and that outburst made waves on social media as people reacted to the first real taste of what Bieniemy's coaching looked and sounded like with veterans in attendance.

On Wednesday, it was Howell again who was the target of Bieniemy's boisterous directions when the coach shouted, "Get off the field! Two's up!"

The call closed out the first team's final set of 11-on-11 practice reps, and while he didn't actually cut the set short, the perception was one of Bieniemy kicking Howell and his unit off the practice field early.

What caused this latest tweet-inspiring announcement was the inability of the first team to get to the line of scrimmage and get set in a timely fashion.

Of course, the first team wasn't the only one getting directed to move faster, but it's always going to stand out more when it's the starters getting publicly corrected.

Dotson says it's all in the interest of making them better though, and nothing else.

"That's kind of how my dad was...He saw the potential in me and he made sure that I worked to get to where I want to be in life," Dotson said about his coach's interest in getting the most out of him. "And I see the same things in E.B. so you really gotta cherish people like that in your life and I'm super thankful to have him as a coordinator."

The thing about Bieniemy's loud directions is it's working, and it's rare to see any Commanders player or unit make the same mistake twice.

Because of that, we don't anticipate having the same urgency issues on Thursday but stand ready for more of the energy that has all of Washington buzzing about what might come this season.
