Commanders' Jahan Dotson Praises 'Silent Killer' Sam Howell
If Jahan Dotson is going to have a breakout season for the Washington Commanders, it'll be because of his connection with Sam Howell. And if early returns are any indication, the second-year receiver and quarterback are ready to elevate each other's games.
Dotson went on Good Morning Football and spoke about Howell's play and demeanor, describing him as a "silent killer" and "ready for war every single play."
"A silent killer, that's what I call him," Dotson said on GMFB. "He doesn't say much, but he's going to go out there [and] he's going to ball. One thing I always say about him is he never looks fazed. That's something you want to have in a guy who's leading your offense, someone who steps in the huddle and is ready for war every single play. Nothing fazes him. He always looks poised."
Dotson had 35 catches for 523 yards and led Washington with seven touchdowns in his rookie season. In Sam Howell's lone start last season, Dotson had three catches for 72 yards.
That connection continued in their two preseason appearances. Dotson had five catches for 76 yards against the Baltimore Ravens. He also had two catches for 30 yards and a touchdown against the Cleveland Browns.
If the duo is going to reach their full potential, offensive coordinator Eric Bieneimy will play a pivotal role in their development. While plenty has been made of his coaching style and how tough Bieniemy can be on his players, Dotson is fully on board with him.
"It's been nothing but great," Dotson said. "Being able to learn from such a great mind, a guy who's won at the highest level you can win at coming off a Super Bowl. Someone who's going to coach you hard. He wants to coach you hard. He wants to make sure every time you step on the field, you're not leaving anything out...You want that in a coach because it's going to bring the best out of you. He pushes us, and we love it."
The success of Washington's offense will be tied to the connection of Dotson and Howell, especially with Terry McLaurin potentially missing time to begin the season. If the tandem of Howell and Dotson continues to succeed, they'll make the Commanders offense more explosive than it has been in recent years.
Washington kickoff the regular season on Sunday when they play the Arizona Cardinals at FedEx Field at 1 p.m.
