Washington Commanders vs. Los Angeles Rams Live Updates: Jacoby Brissett, Washington's Comeback Falls Short Against Los Angeles

Can the Washington Commanders snap their four-game losing streak when they face the Los Angeles Rams?

Did the bye week do any good for the Washington Commanders? We’ll find out on Sunday when they head to SoFi Stadium to face the Los Angeles Rams at 4:05 p.m. ET.

The bye week came at a much-needed time for the Commanders (4-9), as they’ve lost four-straight games and have given up 45 points in back-to-back losses to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving and Miami Dolphins on Dec. 3.

Commanders quarterback Sam Howell has struggled of late, throwing one touchdown compared to five interceptions, with three being run back for a touchdown. The second-year quarterback has run for three touchdowns in that span.

Howell will be without one of his top weapons in running back Brian Robinson Jr. Robinson Jr. is out with a hamstring injury that he suffered against Miami. Defensive end James Smith-Williams is also out with a hamstring injury.

The Commanders’ second-leading tackler, Jamin Davis, is out for the season with a shoulder injury that landed him on the injured reserve earlier this week.

The Rams (6-7) are still in the thick of the NFC Wild Card race and got some help with the Minnesota Vikings’ (7-7) overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday. Los Angeles pushed the Baltimore Ravens (10-3) to the brink before losing 37-31 in overtime on a game-winning 76-yard punt return by Tylan Wallace.

Commanders to Fire Coach Ron Rivera After Season, Per Report

Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald is listed as questionable with a groin injury but is expected to play. Offensively, Los Angeles will be without its top deep threat, receiver Tutu Atwell, due to a concussion.

1ST QUARTER:

The Commanders get the ball to start the game at their 25-yard line after the touchback. 

After a six-yard pass to Curtis Samuel, back-to-back incomplete passes force a three-and-out. Los Angeles begins the drive at its 19-yard line after the fair catch.

Tight end Tyler Higbee moves early to make it 1st and 15. Matthew Stafford's pass to Puka Nacua gains six yards and then Kyren Williams is stopped for no gain on second down. On 3rd and 9, Stafford finds Demarcus Robinson for 21 yards.

Williams runs for 27 yards to the Commanders' 32-yard line, and then Stafford and Nacua connect for a 14-yard gain to move inside the red zone. 

Williams runs for eight yards and then gains six more to make it first and goal at Washington's four-yard line. 

Stafford's pass to Cooper Kupp loses four yards on first and goal. Stafford finds Nacua for a four-yard gain. On third and goal, Daron Payne sacks Stafford. 

Lucas Havrisik's 22-yard field goal is good with 7:39 remaining in the first quarter.

Washington begins the drive at its 25-yard line after a touchback.

Howell completes back-to-back passes to Antonio Gibson for eight and three yards, respectively, for a first down. 

Chris Rodriguez Jr. runs for two yards and then three yards to make it third and five. Howell runs for six yards to move the chains. 

A holding penalty negates a big play from Howell to Terry McLaurin to make it 1st and 20. Howell's pass to Byron Pringle gains four yards, and then his pass on second down is incomplete. On 3rd and 16, Howell scrambles for 14 yards to the Rams' 45-yard line.

Washington goes for it on fourth and two, and Howell's pass to McLaurin gains 24 yards to extend the drive at the Rams' 21-yard line. 

Gibson runs for eight yards, and then Howell's pass on second and two falls incomplete. Gibson runs for one yard on third and two and is short of a first down. The Commanders go for it on fourth and one, and Howell's pass is incomplete with 36 seconds left in the first quarter.

The Rams begin the drive at their 12-yard line after the fourth-down stop. Williams is stopped for a three-yard loss by KJ Henry. Stafford's pass to Higbee gains seven yards on the final play of the first quarter.

2ND QUARTER:

On third and six, Stafford's pass to Kupp gains 16 yards to move the chains.

Williams runs for four yards and then Stafford is sacked at the line of scrimmage. It's third and six and the Rams convert again, this time with Stafford and Higbee connecting for a 14-yard gain to the Commanders' 49-yard line.

Williams runs for two yards and then catches a pass from Stafford for seven. He runs for seven yards on third and one to move the chains again. 

Stafford's pass to Kupp gains eight yards and then WIlliams runs for four for a first down at the Commanders' 21-yard line.

Williams gets another handoff and he fumbles. It's recovered by Commanders linebacker Cody Barton at their 9-yard line with 9:07 left in the first half.

Gibson runs for two yards and then gains four on second down. On third and four, Howell's pass is incomplete. 

Tress Way's punt is a short one to the Rams' 47-yard line.

Stafford's pass to Royce Freeman gains three yards and then he runs for two on second down. On third and five, Stafford and Kupp move the chains with an eight-yard gain.

Robinson runs for 23 yards on an end around to the Commanders' 17-yard line.

Freeman runs for three yards, and then Nacua gets a carry and gains three. On third and six, Stafford's pass to Kupp gains nine yards to the Commanders' two-yard line.

Freeman runs for a yard, and then Stafford is forced to throw it away on second and goal. On third and goal, Williams punches it in for a touchdown. 

Havrisik's extra point is good with 2:19 left in the first half.

Pringle returns the kickoff to the Commanders' 26-yard line.

Back-to-back passes by Howell are incomplete. Ron Rivera is challenging the incomplete pass on second down. After review, the challenge is successful and the call is overturned. Howell's pass to Gibson is ruled complete for six yards on the final play before the two-minute warning. On third and four, Howell's pass to McLaurin is incomplete.

Way's punt goes to the Rams' 28-yard line where Austin Trammell calls for a fair catch.

Stafford's pass to Higbee gains nine yards and he's tackled out of bounds. Williams runs for 12 yards to move the chains. 

Stafford and Higbee connect again for a five-yard gain to the Commanders' 46-yard line. Stafford completes a pass to Williams and he fumbles again and it's recovered by Kam Curl with 1:08 left in the first half.

The Commanders have the ball at 39-yard line. Howell's pass to Gibson is stopped for no gain. Howell throws an incomplete pass and then he's sacked on third down for an 8-yard loss. The Rams call their first timeout with 39 seconds left in the first half. 

It's a bad snap on the punt and Way takes a hard hit at the Commanders' 15-yard line.

Stafford throws back-to-back incomplete passes. Before third down, the Commanders call their first timeout. On third and 10, Stafford's pass to Williams is incomplete, but a roughing the passer penalty on Payne makes it first and goal for the Rams at the 8-yard line. 

Stafford scrambles for two yards, and Los Angeles calls its second timeout with 17 seconds left in the first half. Stafford's pass to Williams loses four yards and the Rams use their final timeout with 11 seconds left. Stafford's pass is incomplete on third and goal. 

Havrisik's 27-yard field goal is good with three seconds left in the first half.

3RD QUARTER:

The Rams get the ball at their 25-yard line to start the second half after Joey Slye's touchback.

Williams runs for 13 yards and then after a play-fake, Stafford finds Kupp wide open along the sideline for a 62-yard touchdown.

Washington starts the drive at its 25-yard line after Pringle's return. 

Rodriguez Jr. gets back-to-back carries and runs for 10 and 8 yards, respectively. Howell's pass on second down is incomplete. Rodriguez runs for 7 yards on 3rd and 2 to move the chains.

Jonathan Williams loses 2 yards, and then Howell's pass to Logan Thomas gains 7. On third and five, Howell's pass is nearly intercepted before falling incomplete.

Way is back in the game and Trammell returns the punt 2 yards to the Rams' 11-yard line with 10:24 left in the third quarter.

Williams runs for 3 yards and then loses 6 on a pass from Stafford. Stafford's pass on 3rd and 13 is incomplete.

After an incomplete pass in the end zone, Rodriguez Jr. runs for five yards to the Rams' 19-yard line. On 3rd and 5, Howell finds Samuel for a 19-yard touchdown.

Stafford finds tight end Davis Allen for a 14-yard gain to the Commanders' 49-yard line.

Williams runs for 4 and then 3 yards to make it 3rd and 3. Stafford's pass on 3rd down is incomplete. On 4th and 3, Los Angeles takes a delay of game penalty. 

Ethan Evans' punt is downed at the Commanders' nine-yard line with 1:58 left in the third quarter.

Howell scrambles for 3 yards and then Rodriguez runs for just 1. On 3rd and 6, Howell goes deep for McLaurin and it's initially ruled a catch but overturned to an incomplete pass.

Nacua runs for 6 yards on an end-around and then Los Angeles calls its first timeout of the second half with 13:36 left in the fourth quarter. After a dropped pass by Williams, Stafford finds Robinson wide-open in the end zone for an 18-yard touchdown. 

Los Angeles goes for two and converts with Williams punching it into the end zone.

Howell's pass is tipped into the air and intercepted by John Johnson III at the Commanders' 38-yard line.

Williams runs for 7 yards and then gains 4 for a first down. A personal foul on Los Angeles offensive lineman Alaric Jackson after the play makes it 1st and 10 at Washington's 42-yard line. 

Williams is stopped for a yard and then runs for 13 on 2nd down. 

Williams is stopped for no gain. Stafford finds Kupp for 4 yards on 2nd down before he goes out of bounds. On 3rd and 6, Stafford's pass intended for Nacua is incomplete.

Brissett's pass to Samuel gains 9, and then he goes deep for McLaurin and he makes a leaping grab for a 29-yard touchdown. 

Slye's extra point is good with 7:17 left in the game.

Freeman runs for 3 yards on back-to-back carries to make it 3rd and 4. Stafford is sacked by Payne for an 8-yard loss. 

Crowder calls for a fair catch at the Commanders' 35-yard line with 5:03 left in the game.

Brissett finds McLaurin for 16 yards and then a 48-yard gain to the Rams' 1-yard line. 

Los Angeles calls its second timeout with 4:47 left in the game. Washington is stuffed on back-to-back plays. On 3rd and goal, Brissett's pass is completed to Thomas for a touchdown, but offensive pass interference on the tight end negates the play. On 3rd and goal from the 11-yard line, Brissett's pass to Samuel gains 4 yards. 

On 4th and goal from the 7-yard line, Brissett's pass to McLaurin is incomplete, but defensive pass interference gives Washington an extra set of downs from the 1-yard line. 

Rodriguez Jr. is stopped for no gain, and the game has reached the two-minute warning. Brissett throws back-to-back incomplete passes to make it 4th and goal from the 3-yard line. 

On 4th and goal, Brissett finds Samuel for a touchdown. 

After a bad snap, Slye's extra point is blocked with 1:46 left in the game.

Slye attempts an onside kick and Kupp knocks it out of bounds at the Commanders' 47-yard line. 

Williams runs for 8 yards, and Washington calls its first timeout of the second half with 1:39 left to play. Williams runs for 4 yards for a first down and that'll ice the game. 

The Commanders call their second timeout with 1:33 left. 

Williams runs for 6 yards, and Washington calls its final timeout with 1:27 left to play. Williams runs for 2 yards on 2nd down. Before 3rd and 2, Los Angeles calls its second timeout of the second half with 44 seconds left in the game. Williams runs for a yard and that's the final play of the game.
