LOOK: Commanders Wearing New Nike Template For White Uniforms
The Washington Commanders are only in their second season under their current nickname, and while the one they used from 1933-2019 isn't coming back, it's unclear if new ownership will keep this one in place permanently.
In any event, the franchise will be called the Commanders at least for another season. And with that, they've made a subtle tweak to their white uniforms. The Commanders are now using the Nike F.U.S.E. template.
Courtesy of Uni Watch's Andrew Lind, here's a look at the difference between the old and new template. On the top is the previous Nike template, and the bottom is the new F.U.S.E. template, now being utilized on the white uniforms.
Interestingly, Uni Watch noticed that in the preseason, the Commanders burgundy uniforms were still using the old template, so this change doesn't appear to be universal. It's unclear which template will be utilized for the black alternate jerseys.
In addition to the Commanders (at least with one of their jerseys), the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans are also switching to the F.U.S.E. template.
Prior to the 2023 season, the Commanders checked in at No. 31 on our FanNation/SI countdown of every current uniform set in the sport.
"Is there a reason they couldn't have just stayed the Washington Football Team on a permanent basis? Commanders isn't a name that anyone seems to like, and the "W" on the helmet looks like it was designed using a stencil," the countdown said. "The alternate black uniforms that the Commanders have aren't bad, but they don't incorporate enough burgundy and gold to really look like Washington. If new owner Josh Harris decides to change the franchise's name again -- and thus, redo the uniforms -- we wouldn't be against it."
The only team that finished with a worse mark on their uniform kit were the Atlanta Falcons.
