Washington Commanders Commit 6 Turnovers in Deflating Loss vs. New York Giants
The Washington Commanders have their season on life support after a 31-19 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon at FedEx Field.
The Commanders offense struggled mightily today, committing six turnovers in the loss.
Despite the offense's struggles, the Commanders still had a chance to win the game in the game's final seconds, advancing the ball over midfield into Giants territory. However, Sam Howell threw his third interception of the day and it ended in a pick-six for the Giants, which put the game way out of reach.
Washington's lone touchdown of the game came at the end of the first half, where Howell ran for an 8-yard touchdown, but the story ended up revolving around receiver Curtis Samuel, who was ejected for fighting Giants defensive back Cor'Dale Flott.
Despite the offense's shortcomings, the defense also played poorly against rookie Tommy DeVito, who had a career day with 246 passing yards and three touchdowns, both career-highs for the undrafted third-string quarterback out of Syracuse.
When the offense and defense both play underwhelming football, it makes it very difficult to win games ... even against teams like the Giants.
The loss puts the Commanders at 4-7 on the season, giving the team insurmountable odds to make any kind of comeback after being swept by the 3-8 Giants.
