The Washington Commanders are getting coal in their stockings after a 30-28 loss against the New York Jets on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

The Commanders had a horrendous start, trailing 17-0 in the first quarter and 27-7 through most of the third quarter.

However, Jacoby Brissett took over for a struggling Sam Howell and gave life to the offense. The veteran quarterback led three consecutive touchdown drives: a 15-yard pass to tight end Logan Thomas, a 1-yard run from rookie Chris Rodriguez Jr. (second of the game and career), and a go-ahead 2-yard run from Antonio Gibson.

During this time, the Jets offense had no answers to match the Commanders and were stuck in the mud on their drives ... until right at the very end where Greg Zuerlein knocked down a 54-yard field goal to go ahead by two points.

By losing the game, the Commanders drop their sixth consecutive game and are 4-11 on the season. They currently have the inside track for the No. 4 overall pick behind the Chicago Bears (via Carolina Panthers), New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals.

The game will also spawn louder conversations on Howell and his place as the starting quarterback. He completed 6 of 22 passes for 56 yards and two interceptions.

The Commanders will answer that question throughout practice this week as they prepare to face the NFC's top-seeded San Francisco 49ers. Kickoff is scheduled for New Year's Eve at 1 p.m. ET.
