The Washington Commanders are heading back home to the nation's capital disappointed after a 14-7 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.

The offense struggled mightily in this one, failing to score any points in the first half. Quarterback Sam Howell had just 51 passing yards in the first half with an interception. He also was sacked five times in the first half and failed to get much going.

In the second half, the defense helped the offense out by forcing punts and a key fumble deep inside Washington territory. The Commanders didn't allow a single point throughout the second half.

However, the offense couldn't get much going themselves. Outside of a third-quarter touchdown run by Brian Robinson Jr., the Commanders failed to score.

Washington had a big opportunity late in the game with a long 17-play drive that nearly lasted seven minutes, but the team was unsuccessful when it got down to the red zone. Howell tried to find receiver Jahan Dotson on 4th-and-5 with just over a minute to go in the game, but the pass went incomplete and the ball was turned over to the Giants.

Howell finished the game with 22 of 42 completions for 249 yards.

The loss puts the Commanders back under .500 with a 3-4 record, while the Giants improve to 2-5.

The Commanders are back in action next Sunday when they host the NFC East leader Philadelphia Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at FedEx Field.
