NFL Betting Odds: Commanders Under .500 Again?
If you look on popular betting sites like FanDuel, the Washington Commanders are projected to win fewer than seven games with the over/under set to 6.5.
Commanders fans certainly won’t be happy with a fourth non-winning season from coach Ron Rivera’s squad, and it would likely mean he’d get dismissed at the end of the year if not sooner.
But, there’s a way Washington fans could still walk away with a silver lining, even if the team doesn’t win more than seven games.
While some fans will likely feel a little bullish or maybe delusional at the prospect of wagering on the Commanders to top the 6.5 over/under win total, we believe the team can win at least seven if not more.
And so does Pro Football Focus according to their recent algorithmic prediction of what will happen in the 2023 NFL Season.
With a simulated win total of 7.17 PFF projects Washington to not only beat the 6.5 game mark but come closer to eight wins than six.
However, any winnings will have to keep Commanders fans warm over the long winter as that surely means no postseason football…again.
In fact, this projection actually concludes Washington will end up with the fourth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, in prime position to land a new starting quarterback if that’s the move for the new coaching staff.
With the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals taking the first and second picks in PFF’s simulation, only the Chicago Bears stand in the way of the Commanders as a team that could feasibly be eyeing a new rookie at the position.
As we saw this past draft, however, just because teams in front of another don’t need that quarterback doesn’t mean they won’t sell their pick to a team that does.
But that’s a discussion for another time, and hopefully one we won’t need to have.
Because all of us, fans and media alike, would rather talk about Washington football into late January and February over high draft picks and scouting events.
