Washington Commanders Can't Keep Lead, Fall vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles completed another comeback against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

The Washington Commanders are on the wrong side of another result after a 38-31 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at FedEx Field.

The Commanders held a 17-10 lead going into halftime, but three touchdown passes from Jalen Hurts in the second half was too much for Washington to overcome.

The Commanders and Eagles were tied at 24-24 with eight minutes to go, but a costly Sam Howell interception in Washington territory gave Philadelphia a short field to try and overtake the lead. Two plays later, Hurts threw a touchdown pass to future Hall of Fame receiver Julio Jones, his first as a member of the Eagles.

The Commanders had a chance to tie the game twice down the stretch, but Washington turned the ball over on downs each time to ice the game.

The Eagles scored a garbage time touchdown with a D'Andre Swift run into the end zone to go up two scores, but the Commanders didn't quit. Howell found Jamison Crowder for a touchdown with just over a minute to go to bring it back within a touchdown.

Joey Slye kicked it onside, but was unable to convert.

Even though Howell struggled in the fourth quarter, the second-year quarterback played well. He threw for 397 yards on 39 of 52 completions, adding to his historic start.

History was also made on the Eagles' side, as receiver A.J. Brown became the first played in NFL history to record 125 receiving yards and a touchdown in six consecutive games, surpassing Detroit Lions legend Calvin Johnson for the mark.

The loss puts the Commanders at 3-5 with an 0-3 start in the division.

The Commanders are back in action next week on the road against the New England Patriots. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET inside Gillette Stadium.
