Commanders Reportedly Losing Wide Receivers Coach to Cardinals
The Washington Commanders have been viewed as a team many free agents and coaches want to avoid over the past few seasons.
But the Commanders had some good things going on inside the organization that others around the league took notice of.
Earlier this offseason defensive backs coach Chris Harris departed Washington as a new hire with the Tennessee Titans as their defensive passing game coordinator and cornerbacks coach.
Now, the team is losing another position coach, this time on the offensive side.
"I'm told #Commanders wide receivers coach Drew Terrell will be leaving the team," Josina Anderson of CBS Sports tweeted Tuesday morning. "He is currently expected to take a position with the Arizona #Cardinals, per league sources."
On Monday, reports surfaced Terrell was being considered to fill the role of offensive passing game coordinator with the Cardinals.
Losing both Harris and Terrell would be big blows to the Commanders' coaching staff as it incorporates new assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
Harris can be directly credited with the impressive development of defensive backs like Benjamin St-Juste who was growing into Washington's starting nickel back position before assuming outside duties following the departure of William Jackson III.
The development of safeties Kamren Curl and Darrick Forrest can also be attributed to Harris.
On the other side of the ball, Terrell was tasked with incorporating first-round draft pick receiver Jahan Dotson into the offense while helping Curtis Samuel become a bigger part of the offense in year two with the team.
Terrell had been on Washington's staff since 2020, earning a promotion to wide receivers coach in 2021 after two years as the assistant position coach.
