Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera surpassed a career milestone with their nail-biting win over the Denver Broncos Sunday.

Other than the overwhelming drama to conclude the game, the Washington Commanders' victory over the Denver Broncos came with a career milestone for head coach Ron Rivera.

As cornerback Benjamin St-Juste controversially knocked away Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson's pass to wide receiver Courtland Sutton, Washington avoided allowing Denver to pull off a miraculous late-game comeback to force overtime, and Rivera won his 100th regular-season game as a head coach.

“It was really cool. It really is," Rivera said. "I’m very fortunate to have so many great players and coaches that have helped me get to where I am today. This is something that’s really about a team effort. I’ve just been very fortunate to have a lot of people help me get to where I am.”

Rivera's 2-0 start to the season is his first as the Commanders' head coach and the first for the franchise since 2011.

In his 13-year coaching career, Rivera has had four 2-0 starts to a season with the previous three coming in 2014-15 and 2017, respectively. During each of those years, the Carolina Panthers made the playoffs, including a Super Bowl appearance in 2015.

Rivera's all-time head coaching record is 100-90-2.

The Commanders have started hot, relying on their lethal pass rush that just got defensive end Chase Young back from a neck stinger injury he sustained in the preseason.

Washington has not started a season 3-0 since former head coach Joe Gibbs led them to the divisional round of the NFC playoffs in 2005. The Commanders will look to do so when they take on quarterback Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.
