Washington Commanders Coach Ron Rivera Focused on New York Giants, Not Future

Ron Rivera and the Washington Commanders can go over .500 with a win against the New York Giants in Week 7.

The Washington Commanders are back in the win column after snapping a three-game losing streak on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Commanders are now at 3-3 after starting the season 2-0 and have a chance to get above .500 this weekend on the road against the 1-5 New York Giants, who have struggled mightily to start the season.

While the psychology of being above .500 can be beneficial for the team, coach Ron Rivera is only focused on the matchup at hand.

"We have an opportunity to go to 4-3, if we go out and play the football we're capable of and win a football game against the Giants," Rivera said. "To get ahead of that, I don't want to do that. I want to make sure we stay focused on the one game at a time in town. Just understand it's the most important game we're going to play all year. Why? Because this is the game we will play, so we're going to keep that focus.”

The Commanders currently hold the third and final wild card spot in the NFC playoff picture. However, it is still very early in the season to look that far in advance. That being said, Washington has to be able to take care of business against beatable teams if it wants to add emphasis on games in December and early January.

The Commanders are back in action on Sunday against the Giants. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
