Where is Washington Commanders' Jahan Dotson? Coach Ron Rivera Reacts to Lack of Production

Washington Commanders wide receiver Jahan Dotson hasn't quite had the impact that many were expecting thus far.

The NFL season is still young and we have only seen three weeks of regular-season play, but that hasn't stopped fans and media members alike from noticing trends.

One trend that Washington Commanders fans aren't loving three games into the season and after a horrendous loss to the Buffalo Bills, is the lack of production out of second-year pass catcher Jahan Dotson. The Penn State product and 2022 first-round pick has just 10 catches on 16 targets across their first three games and has yet to record a touchdown or break 100 yards on the year.

“I just think it's about opportunities," Rivera said. "When the balls are thrown and when he has had the ball thrown his direction, he's been catching the ball and making plays.”

Rivera also revealed it depends on what progression Dotson is for a play, which can also impact how often he is targeted.

“A lot of it has to do with also reading the progressions and all that," he said.

Dotson and the Commanders' offense hasn't gotten off to the best start this season, as they rank near the bottom of the NFL in total yards per game and passing yards per game.

Now obviously this isn't all on Dotson, as quarterback Sam Howell has struggled at times this season in decision-making, ranking second in the NFL in interceptions. Howell is also playing behind an offensive line that has given up a league-high 19 sacks through three games.

So, while Dotson's production doesn't quite live up to where he was drafted or how well he was doing last season, there do appear to be some ulterior factors deterring him from being a star.

In 2022, Dotson recorded 35 catches in 12 games for over 500 yards and seven touchdowns.
