Washington Commanders' Ron Rivera 'Not Worried' About Job Security After Dallas Cowboys Blowout Loss
The Washington Commanders came into the Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys, reeling after losing to the New York Giants.
Needing a better performance as the noise surrounding the coaching staff was getting loud, for three quarters, the Commanders kept the game close (20-10 in Dallas' favor), but 25 unanswered points in the fourth quarter made it another poor loss.
Head coach Ron Rivera was asked after the game if he was worried about his coaching position, and his response was as expected.
"No, I’ve told you before I’m not worried about anything," Rivera said. "All I’m going to do is do my job and see how things go. That’s the only thing I can do.”
Well, Rivera didn't lose his job, but defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio lost his as the first domino to fall was his in the aftermath of yet another big score being put up by the opposing defense.
Defensive back coach Brent Vieselmeyer was also relieved of his duties as the Commanders are now in freefall.
Quarterback Sam Howell has yet another 300-yard passing game, but again, it was in vain.
Howell, for the most part, was under pressure for the majority of the game and is now a part of history as Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland secured his fifth pick-6 of the season, making it a new NFL record.
For Howell, the team just has to take things as they come and try their best to win games of football.
“I’m just taking it one week at a time," Howell said. "I hate losing. I don’t really believe in moral victories or anything like that. I just truly hate losing. So, it sucks. But at the same time, we have a job to do. I think that we have a lot of people in that locker room that have a lot of pride. Everyone’s worked so hard to get where we are in our lives. We’re going to continue to come in and work hard every single day, put one foot in front of the other, and try to win some games.”
Things don't get any easier for Washington as they face Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins as it looks to put yet another poor performance behind them.
With Del Rio and Vieselmeyer being casualties of the poor effort vs. Dallas, if a similar performance is put out against the Dolphins, we imagine that more are likely to follow.
