Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera got a not-so-surprising 62nd birthday present on Monday morning ... a pink slip.

The Commanders fired Rivera after four seasons on Monday, which included a 4-13 mark in 2023 that ended in eight consecutive losses.

Rivera came up with a lengthy statement thanking the fans, organization, coaches and players shortly after the news broke ...

In 2020, Rivera's first year at the helm, he led Washington to an NFC East title with a measly 7-9 record. Things were looking up in Washington as the defensive line was working towards becoming one of the league's best. The team also had a star receiver forming in Terry McLaurin, but things have gone downhill since Rivera's first year.

"We did win an NFC East title in 2020, but we fell short since then and for that, I am truly disappointed," Rivera said.

Commanders Secure No. 2 Pick: 3 Players Washington Can Draft

Rivera never was able to put together a winning season while in Washington, and while his teams were competitive in 2021 and 2022, the franchise hasn't sniffed the postseason since.

Now, the Commanders hit the reset button and present a unique opportunity for Rivera's successor with five top 100 draft picks, including No. 2 overall.
