Commanders SOLD: Snyders Come to Purchase Agreement With Josh Harris Group
ASHBURN, Va. -- The breaking news Washington Commanders fans have been dreaming of for so long finally came on Friday as the team was recovering from their first practice of the offseason.
In a tweet from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the "Washington Commanders and a partnership led by Josh Harris have entered into a purchase and sale agreement, it was jointly announced today."
While this move has been expected for some time, the wave of excitement spread quickly as the focus in Ashburn shifted from rookie player development to franchise-altering events.
In a statement by Commanders co-owners Tanya and Dan Snyder sent to CommandersCountry.com at SI, the couple also expressed hope the transition will be handled swiftly.
"We are very pleased to have reached an agreement for the sale of the Commanders franchise with Josh Harris," the statement reads. "We look forward to the prompt completion of this transaction and to rooting for Josh and the team in the coming years."
The Snyders' statement also praised the other members of Harris' ownership group that includes businessman Mitchell Rales and NBA legend Earvin 'Magic' Johnson.
Harris is also a co-owner of the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL's New Jersey Devils while Johnson also has an ownership stake in the Los Angeles Dodgers. He previously expressed his interest in adding a Super Bowl ring to his collection of basketball and baseball hardware.
While this doesn't officially lock Harris' group into the purchase of the team, it's one giant step forward in what will hopefully become a new era of winning and re-installation of Washington's franchise as one of the best in the NFL.
