'Breath of Fresh Air': Washington Commanders' Sam Cosmi Approves Change
Few organizations have undergone more change in the last year than the Washington Commanders.
Since July of last year, the Commanders have a new owner in Josh Harris, and he has hired first-year general manager Adam Peters this offseason, who then hired head coach Dan Quinn. Peters and Quinn haven't taken long to put their imprint on the organization, as they have signed a bevy of free agents, including offensive lineman Tyler Biadasz, defensive end Dorance Armstrong, safety Jeremy Chinn, running back Austin Ekeler, tight end Zach Ertz and linebackers Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu.
Among the players who have been there to witness the change is Commanders offensive lineman Sam Cosmi. Cosmi has spoken highly of the changes that have taken place in Washington and the positive impact it has had.
“Overall dynamic of the environment and the vibe is very positive, very dynamic, very uplifting. It feels great,” Cosmi said. “It’s like you went to a new team. That’s the feel right now. New everything we just had our new owner last year, new head coach, half the locker room’s basically new, it’s like you went to a new team. It’s definitely a breath of fresh air.”
Cosmi was one of the lone bright spots from last season on an otherwise atrocious Commanders' offensive line that allowed the second-most sacks last season. Pro Football Focus graded the fourth-year offensive lineman as an 80.6 and he only allowed one sack last season.
With a retooled offensive line after signing Biadasz and guard Nick Allegretti, Washington should have a much-improved trio of offensive linemen on the interior. Their ability to play together will be imperative for Washington, especially if it drafts a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick.
Cosmi speaking highly of the Commanders' new regime is a promising sign. While their success will ultimately be determined by the results on the field, having a player who has seen the worst of the franchise fully on board is a strong endorsement and could be the foundation that finally turns the franchise around.
