Washington Commanders' Sam Howell 'Excited For Challenge' vs. New York Giants

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell is up for the challenge of putting the team's Week 7 loss to the New York Giants behind them with the NFC East hostilities renewed at FedEx Field on Sunday.

The 14-7 loss was perhaps one of Washington's worst performances of the season, and since that game, it has lost two of its last three games.

After head coach Ron Rivera stated earlier in the week that the Commanders have to start winning football games, Howell is ready to right the wrongs of that Week 7 disaster.

“Obviously, that was a disappointing game for us," Howell said. "We didn't play well offensively, and there's a lot of things we could have done a better job of, but we're excited. We got another opportunity to go against them. They got a good defense, and they do a lot of really good stuff on the defensive side of the ball. They mix up the looks, and every single game they're doing different looks and stuff, so it makes it harder to prepare. But all we can do is prepare for everything they put on tape. We're excited for the challenge, and we know we let one get away last time for sure.”

With the Giants' defense coming off a brutal beatdown at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys in which Dak Prescott threw for 404 yards and four touchdowns while the offense had 640 total yards, so there could be a chance for Howell to improve on his already impressive passing stats.

As it stands, Howell leads the NFL in passing yards (2,783) through 10 games with Eric Bieniemy as his coordinator and, as such, has started to see his name be mentioned among the national media.

But all that talk about his game doesn't phase Howell in the slightest.

“Honestly, I don't really look at it a whole lot," Howell said. "It doesn't really mean much to me. Obviously, I want to go out there every single weekend, play well, and give our team a chance to win. Obviously, we haven't won enough games. We haven't won the games that I feel like we should have won this season. So that's a little bit disappointing, but I really don't look too much into what I'm doing on a personal level. I look more into what we're doing as a team and just how I can improve for this football team and how I can put this football team in better chances to win football games.”

The Giants' defense looks like a good opposition for Howell and the Commanders to bounce back from their last-second loss to the Seattle Seahawks last week.

After leveling matters late in the fourth quarter, Geno Smith led his offense into field goal range, where Jason Myers nailed his walk-off kick.

Now, against a Giants team reeling after getting the brakes beat off them by Dallas, the Commanders have a chance to further drive the stake through the heart of their division rivals.
