Washington Commanders QB Sam Howell Sacked 5 Times in First Half as Team Trails vs. New York Giants

Sam Howell is struggling to stay upright as the Washington Commanders trail at the end of the first half.

The Washington Commanders are shaking their heads after an abysmal first half on Sunday against the New York Giants. New York holds a 14-0 lead over Washington as the two teams go into the locker room.

The Commanders have struggled to gain any rhythm whatsoever on offense. Sam Howell threw for 51 yards and an interception. He's also been sacked five times.

The defense, on the other hand, has also enjoyed some success in sacking Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who is starting his second consecutive game with Daniel Jones injured. However, Taylor has been able to mitigate that by torching the Commanders secondary.

Taylor has the Giants on pace for their best offensive game of the season, throwing for 209 yards on 14 of 22 completions. Tight end Darren Waller and running back Saquon Barkley are leading the way; each of them have caught a touchdown pass from Taylor in the first half.

While the Giants have dominated the Commanders in the first half, the game is far from over. Washington is only down two scores and there is a comeback that could be made as long as the errors and mistakes stay in the first half. Perhaps some time in the locker room and some adjustments could put the Commanders back in a position to win the game, steal one on the road and get back over .500 in the NFC East standings.

The Commanders will receive the ball when the second half begins at MetLife Stadium.
