Commanders' Sam Howell: Top NFC QB Under Pressure?

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell has just one regular season start to his name, and CBS Sports has listed him as a quarterback under pressure entering next season.
In this story:

Being a second-year quarterback with only one regular season start, one could have been forgiven thinking it would be an easy transition into the starting role for Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell, but the pressure to perform is already apparent.

After being close to a playoff team last season, Howell is taking over an offense with former Kansas City Chiefs coordinator Eric Bieniemy at the helm and has a host of weapons at his disposal.

With many in Washington nailing their colors to Howell's mast this offseason, CBS Sports has ranked Howell as one of the top five quarterbacks under the most pressure in the NFC.

"Howell is the quarterback Washington wants to be its signal-caller for 2023 and beyond, but the first order of business is to beat out Jacoby Brissett in training camp," CBS Sports writes. "Once Howell accomplishes that job, he has to play well enough to keep his position."

There will be no chance for an easy transition into the starting role for Howell as he needs to keep pace with the rest of the NFC East, which is a daunting task.

But with a defense that was ranked in the top 10 last season for points against per game (20.2) and an offense that has the likes of Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel, Jahan Dotson, and a solid running back in Brian Robinson Jr., the Commanders have the weapons to trouble teams.

Much of the Commanders' potential success next season will inevitably come down to how Bieniemy gets the best out of Howell, as, according to CBS Sports, multiple jobs are on the line if things go south.
