Should Commanders Trade For Seahawks DB Jamal Adams?

Should the Commanders trade for veteran Seahawks safety Jamal Adams and gamble on his potential?

The Washington Commanders are expected to look much different next season now that new head coach Dan Quinn is in town. 

That being said, fans shouldn't limit their imaginations regarding roster improvement to simply free-agent signings and draft picks. One player potentially on the table via trade is Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams.

It's been a while since Adams was popular in the NFL, as injuries seem to have taken a toll on the three-time All-Pro and Pro Bowler, but still just 28 years old; could the Commanders take a flier on him?

"Back in 2020, the Seahawks traded a pair of first-round picks and a third-rounder for Jets safety Jamal Adams and a fourth-round selection," BR writes. "At times, the 28-year-old has been a fantastic defender for Seattle, but the Seahawks haven't gotten a fair return on their investment."

Just as Quinn is ushering in a new era in Washington, Seattle is doing the same after hiring Mike Macdonald, a fellow defensively-minded head coach who likely prefers to build his roster as he sees fit, something that'd be easier done with more cap space; for that reason, Adams could see himself getting moved this offseason.

Moving Adams would free up $6 million for the Seahawks, which Macdonald could use to retool his roster. 

As for the Commanders, Adams is appealing because of what he could provide if healthy. In Adams' first season with Seattle, he had 9.5 sacks, looking like the hard hitter that New York had drafted out of LSU back in 2017. Unfortunately, since then, he's dealt with multiple injuries.

Adams tore his labrum in 2021 and quad in 2022. Injuries have limited the former star to just 10 games in the past two seasons, and last season, he struggled in coverage when healthy.

If the price is right, though, Washington's new coaching staff might be willing to take the risk and hope that new defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. can use his background coaching defensive backs to revive Adams' career back to its glory days.
