Washington Commanders Sign Pittsburgh Steelers Ex Mykal Walker
The Washington Commanders are adding to their linebacker corps on Tuesday.
The team announced that it has signed linebacker Mykal Walker to a free agent deal.
Walker, 26, played his first three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The coach who drafted him was none other than Dan Quinn, whom the Commanders hired back in February.
Walker's best statistical season came in 2022 when he started 12 games for the Falcons and recorded 107 tackles. However, the Falcons opted to cut him ahead of the 2023 season with a surplus of linebackers and a new defensive coordinator looking to re-tool the defense.
Walker joined the Chicago Bears in the middle of training camp, but he did not make the final 53-man roster. That led to him joining the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad in September. However, he didn't last long in Sin City and was cut after just over a month with the team.
Walker finally found a more permanent home with the Steelers towards the end of October, and he signed with the 53-man roster in the middle of November.
Walker played in each of the final eight games for the Steelers, starting in five of them. He recorded 33 tackles and even had an interception against the New England Patriots.
Now, Walker gets to start fresh with the coach that drafted him in hopes of once again having stability in his football career.
