Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin Continues 'Awesome' Play Despite Skid

Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin has been a reliable security blanket for quarterback Sam Howell.

The Washington Commanders have hit a rough path of their season having lost four of their last five games after a 2-0 start.

Luckily, they have a leader in receiver Terry McLaurin to help right the ship for a young offense that's looking for consistency after Sunday's 14-7 loss to the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.

Commanders quarterback Sam Howell talked about how important McLaurin has been for him while admitting he needs to lean on him more "when times are tough."

"Having Terry is awesome," Howell said after the game Sunday. "I’ve got to do a better job of relying on him when times are tough and just giving him an opportunity."

McLaurin finished Sunday's game with a team-high in targets (nine), catches (six) and receiving yards (90). If Howell really is fixing to "rely" on McLaurin more, it's anyone's guess the kind of impressive numbers the receiver could have over the next couple of weeks.

McLaurin could've had an even bigger day Sunday if not for a pesky performance from a Giants defense that has had every reason to fold this season.

"They were coming down and pressing a lot," Howell said. "We probably saw the most press today than we’ve seen all year and Terry does a great job of beating press coverage and obviously getting down the field vertically so every time I saw that opportunity, I was trying to give him a chance and he did a great job."

This season, McLaurin has posted 37 catches for 432 yards and a touchdown. While these may not be the gaudy numbers that guys like Tyreek Hill or Stefon Diggs put up, it's the kind of production that needs to continue if the Commanders want to start winning games again.

Washington hosts the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at 1 p.m.
