Commanders Trade Rumors: Lions Favorite to Land Chase Young
The Washington Commanders haven't made firm comments on the future of defensive end Chase Young, but the public has generally decided that he'll be traded away.
As such, one source posts the Lions at +400 favorites to land the pass rusher. And for the latest round of trade proposals for the Commanders' young, injury-plagued star, Bleacher Report has listed out numerous trade scenarios for the edge rusher.
Mock Trade: Chase Young to DET for 2024 third-rounder, Julian Okwara
"While on the field for just 40 percent of the defensive snaps in the 2021 season, Okwara registered five sacks, six tackles for loss and 14 pressures," Bleacher Report writes. "He could produce at a high level in a starting role. Furthermore, Okwara would benefit from playing alongside Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen and Montez Sweat."
Since winning Defensive Rookie of the Year after 15 starts in 2020, Young has played in just 12 games due to injury. Even so, his 27-game career includes nine sacks and three fumble recoveries.
Young, by all public accounts and once healthy, is still considered to be a budding star in the NFL. Is a budding star, who's just 23 years old and a former rookie standout worth a third-rounder and Julian Okwara?
Okwara is serviceable, sure, but his five sacks in 2021 were followed up with just two sacks last season. He's regressed. This isn't a career killer by any means, but it doesn't entice to the level of what Young brings a franchise.
This mock trade undervalues Young's future contributions to the league as a whole, and it would be shocking for 2020's No. 2 overall draft pick to be on the block for so little return.
