Commanders Trade For 'Naturally Gifted' Titans QB Malik Willis?

The Washington Commanders are going forward with Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett, but if it doesn't work out, could they trade for Tennessee Titans quarterback Malik Willis?
In this story:

The Washington Commanders are going forward this upcoming season with Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett as the quarterbacks.

But could there be another player coming to the nation's capital soon? Tennessee Titans quarterback Malik Willis' future with the AFC South franchise is reportedly murky at best. With Ryan Tannehill and Will Levis on the books, some think Willis could be a cut casualty.

So where could Willis land?

According to CBS Sports, who compiled a list of five teams Willis could play for if things with the Titans don't work out, Washington was named as one, with offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy being the reason why.

"While he rose to prominence during the Patrick Mahomes era, Washington's new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was integral in Alex Smith's resurgence before Mahomes took over in Kansas City, and those Chiefs offenses astutely tapped into Smith's athleticism as a runner and scrambler," CBS Sports wrote.

"And with Mahomes, particularly in 2022, Bieniemy demonstrated keen scheming skills, as even without Tyreek Hill, Kansas City's offense hummed as efficiently as always. Without anyone locked into a long-term starting role at quarterback, I'd love to see Bieniemy work with a passer as naturally gifted as Willis. The veteran coordinator could easily deploy RPOs and an assortment of easy, one-read looks for Willis as the former Liberty passer develops as a professional."

It is an interesting thought for Willis to come to Washington under Bieniemy as he enters his second NFL season, and while it wouldn't be smart for the Titans to dump their quarterback so early, the Commanders might be in business if they land him.

Willis has three starts to his name (1-2), and as CBS Sports writes, Bieniemy could easily devise a game plan tailored to Willis' skill set and get the most out of the second-year quarterback.

His ability to run and his untapped throwing potential could be enticing for Washington to perhaps look at Willis in the future.

Of course, this is just speculation at this point, but Willis on the Commanders' roster with Bieniemy teaching him is an interesting thought.
