Limping Redskins fails to protect early lead again, fall 31-21
Through the first two weeks in the season and it is hard to put a finger on what the 2019 Washington Redskins can be. In the most recent outing, a 31-21 loss at the hands of NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys, it was more a matter of what was not on the field.
Plagued by injuries to the secondary, the Redskins defensive front picked up the slack early on with pressure and it resulted in a Montae Nicholson interception and points on the board. But once the pass-rush disappeared, the Cowboys took advantage of limited experience in the secondary, using a pair of extended drives to score before the halftime break and then again promptly out of it.
The Redskins hung tough in the second half before Dallas exerted itself as the more dominant force, but not without bright spots for the home team. Washington put together four quarters for the first time this season, Terry McLaurin showcased a little bit more of his potential and Adrian Peterson moved into fifth all-time with the 107th rushing touchdown of his career. But in the end, the Cowboys firepower was more than the Redskins could handle in their current state.
