News: Snyder fumbling childhood dream, Guice hopefully won't
The Washington Redskins are just five days away from taking the field for their Week 1 match up with the Philadelphia Eagles. With just two practices to go before their 2019 season kicks off, the club released their first regular season depth chart on Tuesday. A well-deserved honor for Derrius Guice was inside, after battling back from a torn ACL suffered just over a year ago, but will the designation bring problems elsewhere?
Blocking up front for Guice will be a source of interest in 2019, but according to a report on Tuesday, that issue may be resolved in the very near future.Welcome to Redskin Maven News & Notes.
Trent Williams holdout ending soon? According to former teammate-turned-broadcaster :: Redskin Maven
Williams, the Redskins enigmatic left tackle is reportedly on the verge of returning to the team. Speaking on 'Hail to the Podcast,' former Redskins defensive back DeAngelo Hall said Williams could return "sooner rather than later," perhaps as early as next week. That's good news for a team with major left-side concerns between Donald Penn and Ereck Flowers.
Guice is RB1 for Washington in Week 1, but will drama follow behind him? :: Redskin Maven
Adrian Peterson, even in his elder state, brings a hard-nosed, downhill style of running that saw him put up a 1000 yard season in 2018. Chris Thompson provides a quick-twitch option in the passing game, and enters 2019 fully healthy. While Peterson and Thompson both have their particular set of skills, Guice is the man who can do it all, and he'll get the lion's share of touches. Thompson is accustomed to his role, ready to haul in passes on third down, but Peterson may not take so kindly to his new found backup slot.

Three things worth pointing out on the Redskins' Week 1 depth Chart :: NBC Sports
See Example A, referenced above, Guice holds the dice. The Redskins are ready to roll with three capable running backs, but NBC Sports points out, not so much at wide receiver, where the Redskins are uncharacteristically inexperienced.Who's returning what this year? WR Steven Sims is set to return kicks, and WR Trey Quinn is on punt return duty. The Redskins meanwhile will be hoping that the pair bring explosion to the return game, but may be ready to switch things up if results don't come quickly.
2020 NFL Mock Draft: Matt Miller's Picks before the Regular Season Kicks Off :: Bleacher Report
If the Redskins want to go back to the Buckeyes well again in 2020, and they end up with the No. 2 overall pick that Bleacher Report has them at, they'll have a great shot at selecting edge rusher Chase Young. The Ohio State product currently figures to be the top defensive talent in the 2020 draft pool, and it's hard to pass that up.
"Young, who helped Buckeyes fans forget about Nick Bosa last season, has exceptional first-step quickness and power in his game. He can line up on either the right or left side and has experience both as a hand-down and stand-up rusher. His versatility and athleticism are eye-opening enough to make him the No. 2 overall player on my draft board."
NFL Power Rankings: B/R's Consensus Rank for Every Team Entering Week 1 :: Bleacher Report
Interestingly, Bleacher Report's power rankings don't sync-up line-for-line with their mock draft order above, but ability doesn't always yield outcome. This year's squad faces uncertainty on the offensive line and a likely mid-season switch at quarterback. Bleacher Report, perhaps leaning on the unknown, has placed the Redskins at No. 29 in their initial power rankings.
Daniel Snyder dreamed of owning the Redskins. Two decades in, success remains elusive. :: The Washington Post
Snyder grew up a Redskins fan, attending games with his family, and imagining that someday, he may own and control the team he loved. Snyder got his wish in 1999, and has since presided over a team with little success, and many heartbreaks. The Washington Post digs into the relationship that Snyder has with the franchise; its players, and its fans, and what may lie ahead as the often abhorred, rarely relished owner seeks success.
Vikings Sign WR Josh Doctson, Patriots workout S Su'a Cravens :: Vikings.com, Ian Rapoport
In a tale of two former Redskins, Doctson, who was released August 31, quickly found a home with the Minnesota Vikings in an already-crowded wide-receiver room.
On the other side of the coin, the roller-coaster career of former standout Su'a Cravens continues as he made his way to New England to try out with the Patriots, who are currently awaiting a verdict Patrick Chung's cocaine possession charges, both from the court system, and from the NFL.
