Watch Derrius Guice's exciting first runs of 2019
Fans have waited over a calendar year to witness the strength that is Derrius Guice's arsenal, and they were finally rewarded in the Washington Redskins preseason dress rehearsal against the Atlanta Falcons.
Guice has been held out the exhibition schedule, as Washington doctors had yet to clear him for contact after his ACL surgery following the 2018 preseason opener. Infection and hamstring troubles slowed him down, but he's been exciting in training camp, and he finally got a chance to unleash his talents against an opponent. There weren't any big plays, but his first three touches showed what he'll bring to the offense.
First, Guice made a beautiful cutback to get into open space and gain seven yards.
Next, he laid a mean stiff arm on a defender to get to the sideline and out of bounds.
His next touch was on a designed screen, showcasing that he will indeed be a part of the passing offense on early downs; a key component to his fantasy value despite Washington's strong presence of scatback Chris Thompson.
All in all, it was an extremely successful debut for Guice, who later had a 12-yard run on a first down, and a couple plays when he plowed through a couple defenders for extra yards. Guice is a complete back, and he will be heaven sent for Washington this season.
The rookie finished with 11 carries for 44 yards after getting stuffed at the goal line late in the half.
