WATCH: Commanders' Sam Howell Bounces Back, Throws TD

Sam Howell is putting the Washington Commanders on the board early against the Arizona Cardinals.
In this story:

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell is really tough.

After taking a massive hit from Arizona Cardinals linebacker Kyzir White, Howell led a seven-play, 91-yard drive that ended in a 7-yard touchdown to running back Brian Robinson Jr.

Here's a look at the play ...

The Commanders gained 52 out of the 91 yards on the drive through penalties ... 15 from this hit on Howell from White.

He also got 37 yards out of Terry McLaurin on a pass interference call against Cardinals defensive back Marco Wilson.

It's Howell's second NFL touchdown, the first coming against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 18 of last season.

The drive was proof that Howell is fulfilling the vision and belief the coaching staff has in him.

"I want him to run the offense," quarterbacks coach Tavita Pritchard said. "I think he's put in so much work, just learning this system, getting in and out of the huddle, tempo at the line of scrimmage, and then executing what we do. I think our guys do a great job of creating great habits in practice, just playing fast and operating at a high level.

"So, that's what I'm looking for from Sam is to keep that MO of just tempo, getting up there. We talk a lot about being on schedule as quarterbacks, whether it's in the passing game and our progressions and things like that. So, for him, it's being on schedule throughout the game.”

The Commanders hold a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
