WATCH: Washington Commanders Strike First with Terry McLaurin TD

Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin scored his second touchdown of the season.

The Washington Commanders are making a statement and getting out to an early lead against the Philadelphia Eagles.

After each team punted on its opening drive, the Commanders changed their tune with their second possession, scoring on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Sam Howell to Terry McLaurin.

The score capped off a three-play, 62-yard drive that saw receiver Curtis Samuel catch a seven-yard pass and running back Brian Robinson Jr. take off for a 29-yard gain to get inside Eagles territory.

The touchdown is McLaurin's second of the season. He scored his first back in Week 2 on the road against the Denver Broncos, a game in which the Commanders won. Washington hopes that correlation can continue today.

The Commanders come into today's game at 3-4 and could look to make some drastic changes at the trade deadline depending on the result of their contest against the Eagles. If they win, they will be more likely to keep their top players around, like Montez Sweat and Chase Young. If they lose, it could mean a fire sale coming into Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline.

Drives like this one will probably keep the Commanders on pace to compete for an NFC playoff spot. While the game is far from over, especially against a brutal opponent like the Eagles, it's certainly a promising start for Washington.

The Commanders hold a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
