The Washington Commanders' collection of draft picks will allow the franchise to build on what has already been a good free agency period.

With the No. 2 overall pick, coupled with multiple second-round selections, the Commanders have a chance to further enhance their roster. But which two players could be seen as the Commanders' ideal selections with their first two picks?

NFL.com's Chad Reuter has given his take on it and has named Michigan's J.J. McCarthy (No. 2 pick) and Arizona's Jordan Morgan (No. 36) as the two he would select.

"Commanders GM Adam Peters was part of the 49ers group that made Brock Purdy a very relevant Mr. Irrelevant in 2022," NFL.com wrote. "McCarthy's game is the closest to Purdy's among the top four quarterback prospects, bringing competitiveness, athleticism and an unapologetic willingness to throw passes into tight windows. The release of Charles Leno Jr. makes finding a left tackle a priority. Morgan is a solid pass protector with smooth movement and a stout anchor despite average length (32 7/8-inch arms)."

Both picks make sense. The Commanders need a new quarterback, and while LSU's Jayden Daniels is firming as Washington's choice, McCarthy and his winning mentality is something that has the Commanders interested.

After the quarterback is selected, the Commanders, as Reuter has done, need to fortify its offensive line after it gave up 65 sacks last season (second most in the NFL).

Morgan would be a superb get in the second round and would offer McCarthy good blindside protection as he enters his first season as a pro.

The Commanders have had a good offseason thus far, but the draft is where the franchise can really put an exclamation mark on their work.

The addition of McCarthy as their new quarterback to spearhead this new regime and Morgan to solidify the offense line are two good choices. Both will complement what Washington has already done this offseason and will no doubt give Commanders fans hope and excitement for the year ahead.
